Camp GAP

22 06 2009

Preteen Camp was fantastic! The campers and leaders alike had a great time with the Lord. It continually brings me great joy to see how God moves in the lives of all who attend camp. TEBC had one child come to know Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, and a leader who yielded their life to future Mission work for God. God is good all the time and all the time God is good!

Summer, Summer, Summer

3 06 2009

Can you believe it? Summer is already upon us. Congratulations to all our 2009 High School Graduates and may God bless you as you serve Him in adulthood. Preteen Camp, VBS, Youth Camp, Wacky Wednesdays, and Summer Sunday Nights are upon us (not to mention family vacations for our members.) Wow, what a busy time this will be! Let us all prepare now for this fast paced thrill ride called Summer by calling upon the Lord our God for direction, strength and endurance.

God Bless You All,
Bro. Bobby

How About You?

16 03 2009

Here are five abilities each Christian should implement throughout their lifetime with Christ:
(A similar concept about the life of Daniel was given by Bro. Vic Bass at GABC in the late 90’s.)

1. Ability to say “No” to temptation as it presents itself.
2. Ability to listen to God’s Wisdom instead of the world’s philosophy.
3. Ability to be promoted in life yet remaining humble in Christ.
4. Ability to do what is “Right” no matter the personal cost.
5. Ability to give God all the glory for your life accomplishments.

As we learn and implement these five abilities we will then begin to understand how
Joseph lived his life with God. (Genesis 37-50)

Remember this is about implementation, not trying. Triers are always trying yet never doing.

Yes, God developed this upon my heart from Paul Deets’ message preached at TEBC on March 8, 2009.
The teacher (Dad) can certainly learn from the student (Son) and be blessed in the process.
Still learning,
Bro. Bobby

A Little More

22 10 2008

The wonder of God’s majesty always keeps me in awe. Imagine with me for a moment a world that is not “color blind” but one that is “color full.” What exactly do I mean? You see, we speak often about how we wish the world was “color blind” so we would be fully accepting of one another. I submit to you that it would be far better for our world to become “color full.” “Color full” would encourage us all to celebrate the fact that God has created vast shades of color in the human race. Think about it this way. Many who are milky light would like to get and keep a tan, others who are very dark at times desire to lighten up, and most of those inbetween would like to be a different shade of color than they are right now. Because most human beings are not content in our own skin we tend to be unaccepting of those who are most different from us. The only answer for true acceptance is to see everybody with the eyes of Jesus.

Therefore, God has continually placed a personal and corporate ministry statement upon my heart that is steadily being implemented. This statement is simply “Capturing the Culture of Christ.” In “Capturing the Culture of Christ” you and I are released from catering to the ideas of any particular culture or race and can concentrate on molding and shaping a completely new culture where Christ is the center piece. What currently happens is each culture “race” has an identity and some stigmas and stereotypes attached to that identity. In other words, statements will be made like, “Oh, they do that because that’s what their people do” or “You know it’s a cultural thing” or even “You don’t understand because you’re not like me and my people.” Although these statements and others like them are made and carry some measure of truth they do not explain how we are to meld together in God’s Kingdom.

Just look around and you will see that church is still very much divided and often very segregated. Many churches complain about how they just don’t understand other cultures so they can’t reach them. Others moan and groan about how people should become like them in order to fit in. Still some will comment that they don’t want “them” to take over our church. I’m not quite sure who “them” are but the statements are still made to me at various times. How do we at TEBC get beyond all of this? The only way I know of is through the Love of Jesus and our complete obedience unto God. Rather than accepting the ways, traditions, and patterns of every culture and attempting to implement that into the church we must look to the Scriptures and implement God’s Word creating the Culture of Christ in His House and in His people.

Capturing the Culture of Christ,
Bro. Bobby

Ministry Vision

7 10 2008

Let me begin by saying, “God is good all the time and all the time God is good!” While recently in the mountains of Colorado God revealed to me some action plans for ministry I am to implement. Some of these plans involve Town East Baptist Church and some of them are personal to me and my family. I will from time to time most likely share both with you.

First and foremost my desire for our church, my family and me is to fully obey God while fulfilling His Will. God has laid the Northeast portion of our country very strongly upon my heart. As I prayed through what God would have me do with this desire an amazing thing took place. As I returned to my daily office work (away from the beauty of the mountains and back in action) the very first piece of mail I picked up was an On Mission magazine and the very first article I read was a request for help from a small church in New York. Needless to say God prompted me to make contact with them and now before the end of the year my family and I will go and discover their needs. I am not exactly sure what God is going to do with our church in the Northeast but He is going to do something. The church overall is steadily losing ground in this portion of our country and God has chosen us to step in and help.

Secondly I have great desire for our church members to be “On Mission” on a regular basis. Has God laid an area of our vast world upon your heart? Does He want you to go somewhere and be His Ambassador for Christ? Don’t wait for God to speak to me to invite you to go somewhere or to send you to a certain place just jump in and see what God does with you. Yes, being “On Mission” can get expensive but God will provide the way as we yield to His calling. As our church grows in size and the number of places God desires us to go increases I will not be able to attend nor organize them all, but I will be able to pray for each and every one. Some will go “On Mission” right here in the Metroplex, others will go in different parts of Texas, some will be called to various parts of North America, and others to the rest of the world. Additionally, I also understand there will be a number of God’s children that He speaks to and says “give instead of go” on any particular mission. This is absolutely vital for success, and those who “give instead of go” are just as much a part of being “On Mission” as those who attend. Let’s all be a part.

God bless you as you go and as you give,
Bro. Bobby
